Welcome to the City of Hereford Election page.  The following information is provided to guide voters and potential candidates through the election process.

The next General Election for the City of Hereford Mayor, Commissioner, Place One, and Commissioner, Place Three will be held on May 3, 2025.

IMPORTANT DATES:

  • January 15, 2025 – FIRST DAY TO FILE FOR PLACE ON BALLOT
  • February 14, 2025, 5:00 p.m. – LAST DAY TO FILE FOR PLACE ON BALLOT
  • April 22, 2025 – April 29, 2025 – EARLY VOTING
  • May 3, 2025 – ELECTION DAY

Applications must be received by 5 p.m. February 14, 2025.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS PER CITY CHARTER

The Mayor and each of the Commissioners shall be a citizen of the United States of America and a qualified voter of the State of Texas; they shall have resided for at least two years next preceding the election date and within the corporate limits of Hereford, Texas; shall be a bona-fide owner of real estate within the corporate limits of Hereford and shall not be in arrears in the payment of any taxes or other liability due the City. A member of the City Commission ceasing to possess any of the qualifications specified in this section, or if convicted of a felony while in office, shall immediately forfeit his office.

Election Code-Chapter 141-Candidacy for Public Office Generally – Section 141.001

To be eligible to be a candidate for, or elected or appointed to, a public elective office in this state, a person must:

  • be a United States citizen;
  • be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable;
  • have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be: totally mentally incapacitated; or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote;
  • have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities;
  • have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the territory from which the office is elected for six months immediately preceding the deadline for filing an application for a place on the ballot (for a write-in candidate, the date of the election at which the candidate’s name is written in);
  • be a registered voter in the territory from which the office is elected as of the date of the filing deadline for a candidate’s place on the ballot (for a write-in candidate, as of the date of the election).
